Breast Surgery
Dr Jeremy Khoo offers surgical treatment for both malignant breast conditions (breast cancer) and benign breast conditions.
Breast surgeries performed by Dr Jeremy Khoo include:
Breast Cancer Surgery
1. Oncoplastic BREAST-CONSERVING Surgery
Treatment of breast cancers can be optimized using plastic surgical techniques to minimize scars and preserve the breast shape
Breast reshaping by moving tissue within the breast after lumpectomy
Partial breast reconstruction by replacing volume loss from cancer lumpectomy with local tissue flaps to avoid mastectomy
Therapeutic Mammaplasty - breast-conserving cancer surgery performed with simultaneous breast reduction surgery
2. Mastectomy
Total Mastectomy where it is not safe or feasible to preserve the breast due to factors of the underlying disease
Skin sparing and Nipple Sparing Mastectomy to facilitate immediate breast reconstruction
Risk-reduction (Prophylactic) surgery with or without immediate breast reconstruction for women at high risk of familial breast cancer
Goldilocks Mastectomy - if a simple mastectomy is not desirable for you, and you either do not wish to undertake or are not a good candidate for complex breast reconstruction with implants or tissue flaps - The Goldilocks Mastectomy may be the best option for you, provided you meet a specific list of criteria determined during your assessment. This technique achieves the same oncological outcomes as a Total Mastectomy but preserves a smaller but cosmetically appealing breast mound after surgery.
3. Axillary Surgery
Sentinel Node biopsy, Targeted Axillary Dissection (TAD) and conventional
Axillary Dissection
4. Breast Reconstruction
Immediate or Delayed breast reconstruction with implants or tissue expanders
Breast symmetrization of the unaffected breast to match the surgically-treated breast, which can undergo significant asymmetry/size reduction after treatment
5. Nipple Reconstruction
6. Porta-cath insertion & removal (for chemotherapy treatments)
Benign Breast Surgery
Microdochectomy and total duct excision to manage and diagnose troublesome nipple discharge
Excisional Biopsies of benign and indeterminate breast lumps
Gynaecomastia Surgery – Removal of breast tissue in men
Removal of accessory breast tissue
7. Functional Breast Reduction for symptomatic large breasts (Macromastia) (patients will require a referral from their GP indicating symptoms (i.e., shoulder pain, neck pain, back pain, etc.) from their large breasts.
Wise-pattern breast reduction
Vertical-pattern breast reduction
No vertical scar breast reduction
8. Breast Implant revision surgery
Breast implant removal or exchange due to complications from previous breast augmentation or reconstruction surgery, such as
Implant rupture
Implant malposition
Capsule contracture
Risk of breast implant-related disease i.e., Breast-Implant-Associated Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma (BIA-ALCL), Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC), Breast Implant Illness (BII)
